I thought I remembered that TIFF was one of the save options for image
displays, but I was mis-remembering.  Here is what Yuan wrote to me just
now:

"... can read certain GeoTIFF files in the IDV, but writing out the tiff
file never developed, I will do it in the next release, likely in the summer."

I cranked up the latest version of McIDAS-V to see if it contained support
for image capture in TIFF format, and it does not, so it looks like you
will have to find a different solution for now, at least.
