[McIDAS #VBK-954111]: error accessing archived NEXRCOMP imagery

Yes, that is correct.

NOAA definitely has an archive of NEXRAD Level 3 data.

McIDAS-X supports the Level 3 radar, not Level 2.

Like all other imagery supported by McIDAS-X, you will have
to use IMGREMAP to remap the Level 3 data.  If you want to
composite multiple Level 3 images, you would also use
IMGREMAP.
