Hi Fred, re: > As of last November, Unidata was close to providing GOES-16 ADDE support. Actually, I our comments (which were included with your inquiry) have always expressed our commitment to provide ADDE access to GOES-16 data. They did not include any comment on how soon we intended/hoped to make access available. re: > What is the current status? We are accessing the real-time GRB-delivered GOES-16 ABI imagery via ADDE routinely in-house from the ingest system we installed at the NCAR Mesa Lab. In fact, when I was looking at loops of GOES-16 CONUS imagery when your email was received. re: > Is the latest version of McIDAS needed to access and process GOES-16 > data? The latest version of Unidata McIDAS-X/-XCD, v2017, has not yet been released. This version is needed to serve the GOES-16 data correctly. Previous versions of Unidata McIDAS-X/-XCD can be used to access and process the ABI imagery that is served by v2017. re: > What is (or will be) the ADDE server name for the GOES-16 data? If you are asking for the name of the machine/cluster that we will be using to serve the data, we are not yet willing to provide that information as it would encourage users to start hitting the machine before it is ready for "prime time". re: > I am being > pressured by some of the ERAU faculty to make GOES-16 data available > to students by the fall semester. ABI imagery from GOES-16 will be accessible well before the fall semester. I am currently working on the ADDE servers for the ABI imagery that is being distributed in the NOAAPort SBN. As soon as I have the servers working correctly, I will be releasing Unidata McIDAS-X/-XCD v2017. As soon as we have the data serving infrastructure in-place for the GRB-delivered GOES-16 ABI imagery and products, we will be letting the community know of the availability of real-time access to the GRB-delivered ABI imagery and products. Question: - I thought that you had retired. Are you still working for ERAU? Also, it is interesting to me that we have had no contact from ERAU about GOES-16 availability.
