Hi Kwan, Before diving into the code in IMGDISP (imgdisp.pgm) to find out why the IMGLIST listing for your Band 3 Himawari AREA file does not include information about what Band 3 is, I decided to create my own sector with the same parameters (e.g., lines x elements, band, etc.) as your AREA file and then test it locally. What I found is that the AREA file that I created works without problems. The following IMGLIST listings for your and my Band 3 AREA files show one of the aspects that are different: Your image is in AREA2005, and this maps to position 2005 in my local MYDATA/IMAGES dataset: IMGLIST MYDATA/IMAGES.2005 FORM=ALL Image file directory listing for:MYDATA/IMAGES Pos Satellite/ Date Time Center Res (km) Image_Size sensor Lat Lon Lat Lon --- ------------- ------------ -------- ---- ---- ----- ----- ------------ 2005 HIMAWARI-8 20 FEB 16051 00:00:00 -17 180 Band: 3 No Information Available 2.00 1.92 225 x 300 proj: 0 created: 2016056 232911 memo: HIMAWARI Projected Full Disk type:VISR cal type:REFL offsets: data= 768 navigation= 256 calibration= 0 auxiliary= 0 doc length: 0 cal length: 0 lev length: 0 PREFIX= 0 valcod: 0 zcor: 0 avg-smp: N start yyddd: 2016051 start time: 0 start scan: 0 lcor: 5331 ecor: 6533 bytes per pixel: 1 ss: 86 Resolution Factors (base=1): Line= 2.0 Element= 2.0 IMGLIST: done My image is in AREA2006, and this maps to position 2006 in my local MYDATA/IMAGES dataset: IMGLIST MYDATA/IMAGES.2006 FORM=ALL Image file directory listing for:MYDATA/IMAGES Pos Satellite/ Date Time Center Res (km) Image_Size sensor Lat Lon Lat Lon --- ------------- ------------ -------- ---- ---- ----- ----- ------------ 2006 HIMAWARI-8 29 FEB 16060 17:50:00 -18 180 Band: 3 0.64 um Daytime clouds and vegetation 0.60 0.77 225 x 300 proj: 0 created: 2016060 181503 memo: HIMAWARI-8 Full Disk type:WARI cal type:RAW offsets: data= 1280 navigation= 256 calibration= 768 auxiliary= 1280 doc length: 0 cal length: 0 lev length: 0 PREFIX= 0 valcod: 0 zcor: 0 avg-smp: N start yyddd: 2016060 start time:175000 start scan: 0 lcor:14606 ecor: 18167 bytes per pixel: 2 ss: 86 Resolution Factors (base=1): Line= 1.0 Element= 1.0 IMGLIST: done Note that the listing for you image indicates that there is no information for the wavelength channel: Band: 3 No Information Available The listing for my image correctly shows the wavelength channel information as defined in the file SATBAND: Band: 3 0.64 um Daytime clouds and vegetation This coupled with a calibration unit indicated in your image, REFL, that is not recognized for Himawari imagery in McIDAS tells me that whatever code made your AREA2005 image is incorrect, or, at least, completely non-standard and, therefore, should be ignored.
