And, the fog product created from the combination of the altered 3.9 and original 10.7 um images is reasonable. How good it is, of course, depends on the eye of the beholder and what the purpose is. Multi-band combinations especially using IR channels is a standard analysis technique, but like anything else their interpretations have to be tempered by a knowledge of the uncertainties and assumptions involved. I view the process as being fundamentally the same as when working with most other kinds of geo-scientific data. Perhaps it would be useful for you to review/examine more closely the set of altered 3.9 and original 10.7 um images and the fog products created from them so you can better assess their usefulness?
