No, I don't have any good idea about this especially since ldm-mcidas decoder proftomd uses the _same_ code as the gempak dcprof decoder to create AND delete the temporary netCDF files (.tmp_netcdfXXXX) which are read (before deleting, of course :-) by the decoder to produce output .gem files.
