Hi Owen, Well, I have been poking around on gale for quite awhile now. I can easily/repeatedly cause the DEV=T error you reported, but I see no apparent reason for it in McIDAS. Also, I replicated your setup on my workstation here at Unidata; I can _NOT_ reproduce the problem on my machine! The fact that things seem to run without problem on my machine got me looking at the shared memory on gale. I see that there are several shared memory segments that are waiting to be deleted (where the status is listed as 'dest'): gale:[114]% ipcs ------ Shared Memory Segments -------- key shmid owner perms bytes nattch status 0x00000000 56819712 root 777 135168 0 0x00000000 58982402 root 777 135168 0 0x00000000 172032004 root 777 135168 0 0x00000000 188317701 root 777 135168 0 0x00000000 194871302 root 777 135168 1 0x00000000 195166215 ocooper 600 393216 2 dest 0x00000000 195198985 ocooper 600 393216 2 dest 0x00000000 195035146 ocooper 600 877120 0 0x00000000 529235979 ocooper 777 14580 2 dest 0x00000000 195231756 ocooper 600 393216 2 dest 0x00000000 195264525 ocooper 600 196608 2 dest 0x00000000 195297294 ocooper 600 393216 2 dest 0x00000000 195330063 ocooper 600 393216 2 dest 0x00000000 195362832 ocooper 600 393216 2 dest 0x00000000 195395601 ocooper 600 393216 2 dest 0x00000000 195428370 ocooper 600 196608 2 dest 0x00000000 195461139 ocooper 600 393216 2 dest 0x00090596 195592212 ocooper 666 258 1 ------ Semaphore Arrays -------- key semid owner perms nsems ------ Message Queues -------- key msqid owner perms used-bytes messages This hints that there is a problem releasing shared memory, and that is seemingly calling for a reboot of the machine.
