[McIDAS #HOW-271266]: GVAR to AREA projection

The projection is not changed during the conversion process -- it is the 
original
view from the satellite.  You can change the projection, if you like, using the
IMGREMAP command, but it sounds like you do not want to do that... yet.  You
may want to remap the images in the future if you want to inter-satellite
comparisons.
