No worries. While at the NPOESS training workshop held at COMET last week, I pushed hard for free and open remote access to satellite image data (geostationary and polar orbiting) for the educational and research community. My comments were well received but I think that opening up access will take quite a bit of effort. FYI, I am working with the head of User Training at EUMETSAT to try and get access to Meteosat opened for the education/research community. This will likely be a long hard battle given EUMETSAT's long standing data policies. >Fired up McIDAS yesterday again for the first time in a >long time and found only a partial install from the guy that worked for >me last summer so I've got a bit of work ahead of me, but it should go >well. Good access to imagery but model data hooks were not working, I send out Unidata McIDAS configured to _not_ decode model data by default. The reason for this is twofold: - folks wanting to model data analysis typically want to use GEMPAK - model output decoding in McIDAS results in HUGE GRID files since the "decoded" fields are stored uncompressed >nor did the menu system communicate properly. I'll have some time to >work on reinstalling this month and then I'll try the Mac version out. Hmm... I have no quick advice on what may be wrong there. I believe that I had access to an FSU machine at some point. If I still have the access information, would you like me to take a look around?
