Hi Paul,
>I am the IT Specialist for the NOAA National Weather Service Forecast
>Office, Guam. We use McIdas, v7.6, to convert local GVAR imagery for
>ultimate ingest to our AWIPS system. We also exchange imagery, for
>backup purposes, with our sister office in Honolulu and have learned
>they are using McIdas 2003. We would like to upgrade our version.
The agreement that the Unidata Program Center has with the Space
Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison allows us to give access to our McIDAS distributions
to institutions of higher education (typically univesities) worldwide.
This agreement does not allow us to distribute McIDAS to NWS/NOAA
offices unless they are a current member of the McIDAS Users Group
(MUG) based out of the SSEC. The folks you have been dealing with in
Honolulu fall into the category of the folks that we are allowed to
distribute McIDAS to (i.e., the University of Hawaii), but I am not
sure if you do.
>I've registered via the Unidata website but receive error when trying to
>download McIdas 2003. Please advise ....
If you are a current member of the MUG, we will gladly open up access
to Unidata McIDAS (the current distribution is v2004, not v2003)
through our website, my.unidata.ucar.edu. If you are not a current
member of the MUG, you will need to get your McIDAS distribution
directly from SSEC. I have CCed the SSEC MUG on this reply so will
have their email address if you need to contact them directly.
>Tks,
No worries.

Hello Paul,
This is Dee Wade and I am the Program Manager of the McIDAS User
Services at the University of Wisconsin.
If you are interesting in getting McIDAS you will need to deal with us.
You can find information on the MUG (McIDAS Users' Group) web page
http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/mug/
Some points of interest for you points of interest are under General
Information. The MUG Policy Document and the Software Polices define
the legal issue in the use and distribution of McIDAS. I would be
interested to know where you got McIDAS version 7.6.
There is a fee for McIDAS use and those can also be found under General
Information. In your case a single license (1-2 seats) for year 2005
will be $5,460. The MUG has several NWS offices as clients in the US
and abroad.
Please let me know if you would like any further information or have
questions.
