Hi Fred,

>I have not been able to access data from the unidata2.ssec.wisc.edu server.
>The public ADDE group of GOESEAST shows no data sets available, as does the
>EAST and WEST groups that you mentioned in your e-mail. I am not sure if
>the problem is our setup or the server.

The ADDE server on unidata2.ssec.wisc.edu is working. Here is a DSINFO I
for the dataset EAST on it:

Dataset Names of Type: IMAGE in Group: EAST

Name NumPos Content
------------ ------ --------------------------------------
ALL 2500 GOES-12 all imager data
CONUS 2500 GOES-12 continental U.S.
FD 2500 GOES-12 full disk
NH 2500 GOES-12 northern hemisphere
OTHER 2500 GOES-12 misc. (E.g. SRSO 1-minute imagery)
SH 2500 GOES-12 southern hemisphere

DSINFO -- done

Is it possible that you are using the GZIP compression and unidata2 has
not yet been updated to support it?

>What is the IP address of unidata2.ssec.wisc.edu?

% nslookup unidata2.ssec.wisc.edu

Server: 128.117.140.62
Address: 128.117.140.62#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: unidata2.ssec.wisc.edu
Address: 128.104.110.130

>Is the server configured to allow user access?

It is wide open.

>Is
>there a problem with the port change that went with the latest Mcidas
>upgrade?

Could be. See my comment above.

>Or is there a firewall blocking access?

I would check your own firewall rules first. I just got into unidata2
through ADDE with no problems from the UPC and from a machine I have
access to at Northern Illinois University.

By the way, I am now in Fortaleza, Brazil, so my email replies will
be fewer and slower coming.

Cheers,

Tom
