Access to MciDAS

Hello,
My name is Dee Wade and I am the Program Manager for the
McIDAS Users' Group (MUG) at Space Science and Engineering Center
at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Tom Yoksas from Unidata Support  has forwarded your query regarding the use of
our McIDAS software.

Like Tom mentioned,  Unidata is allowed to provide McIDAS software
to educational institutions. Through the SSEC MUG we have several foreign
Meteorological Agencies as MUG members, such as Australia, Greece,
Mexico, Japan, Italy, and ECMWF).
We do have to charge for the McIDAS license which is good for one year
and renewable.  If you are interested and would like more information please

I would like to download the latest version of the McIDAS software, but
the research institution I am part of is not listed in your organization
list.  Is there a way for me to download the software for research
purposes?

The license that Unidata has with the primary McIDAS developers, the
Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison allows us to distribute Unidata McIDAS to educational
entities worldwide.

Your organization, the 'National Meteorological Administration' sounds
like it might be a government entity.  If it is, you must get McIDAS
directly from SSEC (address@hidden).  If your institution is not a
government entity (i.e., its goals are for education and research), we
may be allowed to give your our distribution.  Please let us know more
about your institution so we can better judge who you need to contact
for McIDAS.
