Yes.  If you are going to FILE the images, the last pqact.conf
action I sent in my last email should be a good starting point for
your use:

I have been accessing (list, display, etc.) the Zlib-compressed imagery
on a FreeBSD McIDAS testbed machine here at the UPC for over a month
with no problems.
