Hi Matt,

Hmm... To test whether your DATALOC worked, first do the following:

DATALOC LIST BLIZZARD

You should be back a listing like:

DATALOC LIST BLIZZARD

Group Name Server IP Address
-------------------- ----------------------------------------
BLIZZARD ADDE.UCAR.EDU

<LOCAL-DATA> indicates that data will be accessed from the local data directory.
DATALOC -- done

If you don't get this back, I suspect that your MCTABLE_WRITE
environment variable is either not setup, or not setup correctly.

Since you are setting up McIDAS, I am assuming that you are doing this
in the 'mcidas' account. Is this true?

If yes, what is the set of environment variables you have defined for
this account.

If not, what user are you doing this as?

I am guessing that what is happening is that the file that the
DATALOCation is being written to is not writable by whoever you are
running McIDAS as.

In either case, a listing of the environment variables (the output of
'env') defined in your Unix login would be helpful in troubleshooting
this problem.

On a related subject, will you be setting up the LDM at UNCA? I sent
Alex a note about a month and a half ago offering to do the LDM upgrade
for UNCA, but I never got a reply. The offer still stands; all I need
to do the work is the login information for 'ldm' and 'root'. If
you/UNCA wants me/us to do the upgrade and tuning of the LDM, please
send the login information to my personal email address,
address@hidden. Do not include the account or machine names
as long as the machine that the LDM is to be upgraded on is
storm2.atmos.unca.edu.

Cheers,

Tom Yoksas
