I relayed this to our web guru, and he is setting up a new category for
all of the groups in UCAR.

This is odd.  I am able to ftp to our site with no problems from more than
one university site where I have a login.  Until the new UCAR group
is setup for web download, please try the FTP site again:

For McIDAS:

machine: ftp.unidata.ucar.edu
user:    xxxxx
pass:    xxxxx!
directory: unix/2002

One thing about our FTP site: we check to make sure that a machine
contacting us by FTP has both forward and reverse name lookup.  If you
tried your FTP from a machine that does not support this, you would be
denied.

Thank you Tom.

Trying the FTP site again, this time from a different machine (one or
our Solaris boxes) and with the 'umcidas' account, I was successful.  I
suspect the fwd & reverse DNS lookup may have been an issue as well.

Appreciate the help!  Now it's off to install land.
