20021114: ldm having issues starting up related to McIDAS-XCD (cont.)

The next step is to rebuild McIDAS from scratch.  The only thing I can
think of is that one or more McIDAS executables got damaged in the
initial rewboot of aeolus, of some libraries got changes/updated, etc.
I tried to rebuild McIDAS-X and -XCD yesterday evening, but the
first package that needed configure stopped me in my tracks since
it could not find a working copy of a C or Fortran compiler.  The
versions in /opt/SUNWspro/bin run enough to indicate their version, etc.,
but they will not compile code.  Any ideas?
