Owen,
>The ETA grib files that we received from NCAR were on exabyte tapes, which
>are back at U.Va. so I can't access them, although Tony Wimmers can load
>them and give you a few files.
OK. I will blast Tony a note.
>I just logged onto the NCAR mass-storage
>system and downloaded one of their compressed ETA files for a day in Sept.
>1997. They give instruction on how to use the msexport command to
>uncompress the files. But this comamnd is no longer supported on the NCAR
>machines and I get a mesage saying I need to use the msexp command, but of

Since I didn't know anything about MSS input/output commands, I asked
Russ Rew to call his wife Juli (works in SCD). She provided the following
URLs for info on MSS stuff:
http://www.scd.ucar.edu/tcg/consweb/Info/FAQ/staging.html
General MSS document:
http://www.scd.ucar.edu/docs/mss
A quick read of the first one shows that msexp is used for exporting
all the files in your MSS home directory to high-density EXAbyte tape.
>One small problem with me getting the files to you in a timely manner is
>that I am leaving on Tuesday to spend 5 weeks working in Germany!
Sounds like fun!
>Just let me know what you think will work best,
If you can discern how to extract the grid in the time you have, that
would be great! Otherwise, I'll try and get hold of Tony.
Thanks!
Tom
