Greg,

Sound like a good move :-)

Since we are moving to a new way of distributing software, I would much
rather you use it to grab the McIDAS-X 7.80 release than FTP. Below is
the body of the text I sent announcing the availability of Unidata McIDAS-X
7.80. In the announcement is the procedure for registering as a Unidata
user and downloading via the web 7.80. Please let me know if you have
any questions or problems with the new procedure.
Unidata McIDAS-X Users,
Version 7.8 of Unidata McIDAS-X is now available for download by
educational institutions worldwide!
Even though passworded FTP access is still available, users are
strongly encouraged to download the new distribution by using the
'Download Software' link on the Unidata McIDAS-X 7.80 HomePage:
Unidata McIDAS-X Version 7.80
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/mcidas/780/
The web method of package download, which is being developed as the
standard for Unidata offerings, requires that you register as a Unidata
user before you will be allowed access. The registration process will
only take a couple of minutes, so please signup! While you are at it ;-),
please fill out the Unidata User's Committee survey:
http://my.unidata.ucar.edu/surveys/spring_2001/survey.php
Unidata McIDAS-X 7.80 is a combination of SSEC McIDAS-X 7.80,
McIDAS-XCD 7.80, and various applications and enhancements from the
UPC, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, CSU/CIRA, and others.
Featured upgrades in this release are:
- an ADDEized version of the Tcl/Tk MCGUI interface
- a GUI startup interface that allows users to modify and save
session parameters. To use the GUI startup, simply run:
mcidas config
from the Unix command line after you have finished the 7.80 upgrade.
- "built-in" access within MCGUI to a set of cooperating remote ADDE
servers for currently supported datasets:
Model output Satellite Imagery Point Data Weather Text

RTGRIDS AMRC RTPTSRC RTWXTEXT
CIMSS
GINICOMP

RTIMAGES
RTNEXRAD
TOPO (all sites have these images; they are part
of the Unidata McIDAS-X distribution)
RTNOWRAD (for those who subscribe to the NOWrad (tm)
composites from WSI Corporation)
The list of datasets supported by the MCGUI will be increase throughout
the fall.
The current set of sites providing cooperative ADDE services is:

through ADDE. Please contact Unidata User Support for additional
information.
