You were absolutely correct: the page in the link wasn't there. It is now, however. I think that as you work through the Learning Guide, you will find that the training dataset does not have to be local to your machine. In fact, the Learing Guide directs one to setup a DATALOC to the training set on the machine ADDE.UCAR.EDU. It might be best if you skipped downloading the training set (for now) and kept on with the lessons.
