Randy,
>i have grabbed the files:
>Changes.770
>mcidasx770.tar.Z
>Whatsnew.77x
You should also grab:
mcinstall
mcinet7.7.sh
>do i also need a .sh file to build mcidas on the Alpha?
No. The procedure for building Unidata McIDAS-X/XCD is different from
the SSEC procedure:
o FTP the needed files: mcinstall mcinet7.7.sh mcidasx770.tar.Z
_in binary mode_ to your ~mcidas directory
o chmod +x mcinstall
o define McINST_ROOT in your 'mcidas' Unix session (typically /home/mcidas)
o define environment variables used in the building of the netCDF portion
of McIDAS-X. See:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/mcidas/770/mcx/warnings_mcx.html#netcdf
for details
These settings are best done in your shell default file: .cshrc for C shell
users; .kshrc and/or .profile for Korn/Bourne shell users. Remember that
you need to make the settings active before proceeding (e.g., source .cshrc;
. .kshrc; or logout and then log back in).
o ./mcinstall
o cd mcidas7.7/src
o make <- build Unidata McIDAS-X
or
make mcx <- build Unidata McIDAS-X
or
make all <- build Unidata McIDAS-X and -XCD
o make install <- install Unidata McIDAS-X under $McINST_ROOT
or
make install.mcxall <- install Unidata McIDAS-X under $McINST_ROOT
or
make install.all <- install Unidata McIDAS-X, -XCD under $McINST_ROOT

will do. those files have an older time tag on them (12/6/00 and 6/3/00). I
assume this is ok.
