>From: Dave Santek <address@hidden> >Organization: Space Science & Engineering Center >Keywords: 199909091334.HAA26569 Unidata McIDAS-X NOAAPORT NIDS Mark, Dave Santek asked me to respond to your inquiry about the NIDS products currently in the NOAAPORT datastream: Dave Santek said: >One of our newer McIDAS sites is interested in displaying the NIDS data. >This is from Mark Chambers (address@hidden)at Universal >Weather. He has some questions about the radar that I think you may know: Mark Chanbers asked: >> What I am trying to determine is >> whether the ADDE server that you mentioned Unidata wrote will ingest the >> NIDS products from the NOAAPORT stream or will it only handle the NIDS >> products as provided from WSI? Dave Santek asked: >Can you either: > o answer him (please cc me so I'll know in the future) > o tell me and I'll pass it onto him The answer is that my NIDS servers (ADIR and AGET) do not directly support the NIDS products in NOAAPORT. The modification to support these products is trivial, however (the only difference is a few bytes of header at the beginning of the product). The only reason that I have not made the mods is that the NOAAPORT NIDS products are scheduled to be encrypted in the very near future. In the two year timeframe, they will be unencrypted and freely available on a proposed 5th NOAAPORT channel. If we learn that the plans to encrypt NIDS has been shelved, I will make the mods to my code and then make them available to SSEC. I hope that this helps...
