Hi Kelly, > we host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. but it writes its products to another machine > over nfs. we have in the past collected mid atlantic goes data for > hurricane season. i don't think we've pulled nexrad data for a while but > i think its on the wish list. A .edu's LDM can subscribe to the SATELLITE, NEXRAD2, and NEXRAD3 feeds from idd.unidata.ucar.edu or iddb.unidata.ucar.edu regardless of whether or not it's running in a VM. We do this as well as some of our clients. The only problem we've seen with the LDM running in a VM is if it's trying to ingest the NOAAPort broadcast directly from a satellite dish. In that case, the hypervisor might re-order the incoming packets (causing problems) or other things that the host computer is doing can cause NOAAPort frames to be missed. I hope this helps.
