Gregg,
I've been talking to our systems administrator, Mike Schmidt, and he thinks
he's seen something similar.
If College Park is running an LVS cluster, then the iptables on the director
might be causing the problem. TCP connections on port 388 should *not* be
stateful on the director.
Are you running some sort of intrusion detection system (IDS) on your campus?
If so, then it could be causing the problem by "blackholing" the connections.
