By the way, the ldm-mcidas wind profiler decoder, proftomd, uses a number of the same routines that GEMPAK's dcncprof uses (Steve Chiswell wrote the code to be shared between the two applications). Just to see if there was something weird with MacOS-X wrt wind profiler processing, I tried decoding wind profiler data (which is in the IDD FSL2 datastream) into McIDAS-compatible format (a McIDAS MDXX file). The fact that this attempt worked with no problems demonstrated to us that there must be a subtle bug in dcncprof that shows up under MacOS-X but not other supported OSes.
