Marcus, I was looking at some online documentation on syslog-ng http://www.balabit.com/products/syslog_ng/reference-2.0/syslog-ng.html/index.html You might be able to have syslog-ng write to a day-of-the-week specific file by using the $WEEKDAY macro in the file() destination driver. This would accomplish something similar to sending the syslog daemon a SIGHUP after renaming the log file. Please remember that hardly know anything about syslog-ng.
