Sorry.  My fault.  I forgot that I did a "make clean" in the source-directory, 
which caused the error.
Please do this for step 1, instead:
    1. As root in the directory "/rainbow/ldm/ldm-6.4.5/bin", execute the 
commands
        chown root rpc.ldmd hupsyslog
        chmod 4755 rpc.ldmd hupsyslog
