The above means that Oceanlab can convert Ldm's hostname into an IP
address and can successfully connect to the ping(1) server on Ldm.

The above means that Oceanlab can convert Ldm's hostname into an IP
address (which we knew from the ping(1) results) but Oceanlab can't
connect to an LDM server on host Ldm.

I suspect that Oceanlab is connecting to port 388 on Ldm but that the
LDM server on Ldm doesn't have an ALLOW-entry in it's configuration-file
that enables it to accept the incoming connection.  Check the LDM
configuration-file, ldmd.conf, on Ldm.  What entry would allow it to
accept a connection from Oceanlab?
