Why wasn't Doppler's LDM able to resolve Humbolt's IP address into a hostname? Ask your system administrator about the implementation of function gethostbyaddr() on Doppler. What is the output of "uname -a" on Doppler? On Reflect? > Logfile excerpt from humboldt ldm: > > Sep 19 13:13:40 humboldt doppler(feed)[12954]: up6.c:396: Product send > failure: There is an input or output error. > Sep 19 13:13:46 humboldt rpc.ldmd[100710]: child 12954 exited with status 6 > Sep 19 13:14:10 humboldt doppler(feed)[25476]: up6.c:331: Starting > Up(6.0.14/6): 20030919115313.485 TS_ENDT {{FSL5, ".*"}} > Sep 19 13:14:10 humboldt doppler(feed)[25476]: topo: doppler.ncdc.noaa.gov > FSL5 > Sep 19 13:14:22 humboldt doppler(feed)[25476]: up6.c:168: HEREIS: RPC: > 1832-006 Unable to send; errno = There is no process to read data written to > a pipe. I suspected as much. But the timestamps don't correspond with the previous ones in Doppler's LDM logfile. Did you not use the same time? > Doppler has worked successfully with both reflect and humboldt in previous > versions of ldm (both 5 and 6). Then the problem definitely lies outside the LDM. > SSH works fine from both humboldt and reflect to doppler and vice versa. Interesting. > There has been a system patch or upgrade of some kind to the latest and > greatest AIX. We're running an LDM 6.0.14 on our AIX 5.1 system and having no problems. What's your version of AIX and what was the patch? Was it applied to Reflect, Doppler, and Humbolt? Tell your network administrator that a firewall between two LDM-s must not restrict any packet whose source OR destination port is 388. Were there any changes to any firewalls between between Reflect and Doppler? Regards, Steve Emmerson
