Hi James,
Thanks for letting me know that this isn't a high priority. Right now
I'm swamped trying to prepare for a three day workshop starting
Thursday. If you can hold off until next week, I would be happy to log
on and try to fix the problem. You can call me at (303) 497-8677.
Symbolic links should not be a problem wrt logging. But, since logging
failed after installing GEMPAK, I would certainly take a look at how
your directories are set up.
One last thing to check is the system logs to see if the syslog deamon
is reporting any problems. Depending on your machine, they might be in
/var/adm/messages or /var/log/messages.
