It sounds like to me that you came from some Unix background to Linux, I had never even see a machine running any form of Unix or Linux until two years ago. There is a big push to go with the Linux momentum and replace all other types of Unix with it (you see many articls predicting the end of other forms of Unix). Look at SGI pushing Linux instead of Irix... In my opinion if you are in the position of starting completely from scratch and can only afford a $3500 PC to develop Unidata programs, it is a good thing that Unidata fully supports Solaris x86, because to me, having tried both, Solaris is far easier to come up to speed on, admimnister, add hardware..really sort of plug and play..but again it is just my opinion. Of course, since I didn't have any previous Unix experience where Solaris places things would not seem strange to me. This debate will never be settled. I am just grateful that Unidata gives the PC user the choice, which was really my point. Gig'em and thanks for the help on Apache. Robert Mullenax
