Hi Alan,

Yes, the documentation on this needs improvement.  Right now the only
discussion can be found at
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/cgi-bin/mfs/06/whatsnew.html?361#mfs under the
date of 8 Dec 1994.  It allows you to specify a model in your product
identifier string.
