Tom, You need to stop the ldm after you make any changes to the ldmd.conf file, for pqact.conf it needs to have a kill sent to it. ie kill -HUP <syslog.pid> Don't worry if you don't grasp everything all at once, read the tutorial and then play with the ldmadmin command.
