There might be a bug in perl's kill command. Of course the syntax is
different for Debian Linux. I replaced perl's kill command (used to stop
the LDM) with a system call. I works ok, but it still takes awhile for
all the processes to die. The reason you had such trouble restarting,
some of the old ldm processes were still hanging around confusing the new
ldm invocation. I modified the ldmadmin on iita2 so it uses the system
kill command, it seems to work ok. Let me know if you still have
problems.
