Hi Max,

Using one variable value to set the transparency of another variable's color 
table does not
make sense to me. You can certainly set the data point and transparency 
directly in the
color table you used for the velocity. Here is the document of how the color 
table editing:

I may not understand your issue correctly, let me know if this is the case.
