Hi Thomas,

The function you request is not there yet, but we do have API to sample Grid 
field at certain earth location and you can write a Jython function to
call this api to do what you want.

GridUtil.sampleToReal(FieldImpl grid, EarthLocation el,
                                    Real animationValue, int samplingMode)
