Hi JP, Make sure your IDV is up-to-date, and also that you have downloaded to correct version of the IDV (Windows versus OS X, 32 versus 64 bit, etc.) http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/idv/ To further diagnose the problem, you will have to give me additional information. Try to capture the contents of the error message and send the output to us. If running on windows, you can do this by launching the IDV from the windows command prompt.
