[IDV #OOC-761637]: Wildfire prediction



Hi Fernando,

The half degree GFS, for example, does indeed supply both the Haines and Field
Capacity indices and are available in the IDV default catalog. For the GFS Half
Degree Forecast, see

- 2d grid > Soil > Field Capacity Index 
- 2d grid > Fire Weather > Haines Index

However, these fields are not derived within the IDV. They are supplied by the 
GFS model. In order, to discover how these fields are derived within the GFS you
would have to do some research starting at NOAA NCEP http://www.ncep.noaa.gov/ 
where the GFS model is generated.

Related to this topic, you can derive your own quantities in the IDV via Jython
formulas. Please peruse:
