Robbie, A couple of suggestions. To see if the data have depth, change the viewpoint to a side view. When I do this, I can clearly see your data beneath the plane of the earth. http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/idv/5_0/docs/userguide/quickstart/index.html To exaggerate the vertical relief, click the button that looks like a comb beneath the view point toolbar.
