Greetings Scott, This is due to a change in the way GRIB data are handled by netCDF-Java; That said, I noticed that you are using an old version of the IDV (3.0u1). If you update to the latest version, which uses the latest version of netCDF-Java, then you should be good to go with your derived variables. Please see this note regarding the latest version of the IDV and the changes being made to the Unidata THREDDS server (which is serving the data under the THREDDS Model Data folder: http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/blogs/news/entry/idv_users_note_upc_is Note that in the blog post, two plugins are described - you will need to pick one or the other in order to continue using IDV bundles. I would highly recommend trying the "Test Unidata TDS 4.2 -> 4.3 Upgrade" plugin, as this will allow you to test any older bundles you have to see how they do with the transition to the new server. Also note that after June 1st of this year, the IDV Model Data folder will no longer be accessible, and you will need to use the "Test Unidata TDS 4.2 -> 4.3 Upgrade" plugin to continue being able to get data from the Unidata TDS using the IDV. Please let us know if you have any questions, or notice any bugs related to the upgrade.
