Carlos,
The AREA projection is not a standard projection, it can not be export
to the GIS environment. In the IDV we calculate those projection parameters
(extension, projection, elipsoid) in the java code, if you interest you can
download the source code to find out how to pull these information out.
For the satellite dataset, you can also use the TDS server that provide
GINI format dataset and it does have better standard projection information.
