Hi Glenn,
Having come in on this conversation part way through I'm hoping my
impression isn't way off, let me know if it is. My one sentence summary
of the issue would be:
How could the NCDC collection of radar level II and level III data
be made accessible to the IDV?
If you guys at NCDC are up for it, we would be interested in focusing
some effort in the next month or so on helping you setup the appropriate
servers at NCDC and test them out.
Seems like the first thing would be to get an ADDE server set up at NCDC
to serve the level III data. I don't think the IDV needs any THREDDS
stuff to access ADDE served level III data. (Don, is that right?)
Though, because of the size of the NCDC data holdings (Glenn, how much
level III data would you want to make available at first?), we might
want to look at some cataloging capabilities.
Second would probably be more testing of the ESML-OPeNDAP level II radar
data server. We've already started looking at this here at Unidata to
see what it would take to access the data from the IDV. I think we've
had some interactions with the ESML people on this as well. Again we can
look at cataloging this data both to let the IDV know what the data is
if necessary and to deal with a really large collection of level II
radar data.
I guess that's about it. Does anyone see something I'm forgetting?
Glenn, does this sound like something you guys are up for?
Ethan
Thanks Don,
So- ADDE reads level III directly. OK. Is there a THREDDS description
of these data?
Yes- UHA has the ESML-OpeNDAP that does Level II. I'm wondering- if
I can make all of the Level-II and III data avbl here on line disk,
how would you like to see it- both in terms oif catalog, and I'm
looking to subset this Petabyte or so? (thus the Opendap type
question). Fact is- we will have this all on-line soon. Is there a
THREDDS description of these data for the catalog listing I see in idv
(for II and III data)? Thx, Glenn

Hi Glenn-
I'm wondering how idv handles radar data via idv. Is this o-DAP
enabled in same way? Thx, Glenn
I'm confused by your question. IDV supports level III radar data
through
ADDE. It supports Level II data through the local file system (files
can be bzip2'd like from the LDM stream, or raw ARCHIVE format).
Supposedly, University of Alabama-Huntsville is working on an OPeNDAP
server for the level II data.
