Hi Mary, re: > I did restart ldm and same issues (thanks for the tip on ldmadmin watch). OK. Reiteration of a previous question asked and a new one: - how are you able to be logged onto aeolus (e.g., from the system console; SSH from another UCSD machine; SSH from some other machine)? - can you access anything from aeolus? What I have in mind is: - try to FTP to ftp.unidata.ucar.edu What happens? Does the connection attempt actually get off of aeolus? If you can't access anything from aeolus, it could be the case that there is a network cabling problem (someone accidentally unplugged the machine), or the network interface is dead. re: > Note laraine.unidata.ucar.edu is on the firewall host list so once this > network issue is resolved you will be able to connect. OK. re: > And the network > restart was as root (the hash tag on this system indicates root). I asked because your first attempt of running 'service' failed, and then worked when you used the fully-qualified pathname to the executable (/sbin/service). 'root's PATH would typically include /sbin. The other thing that threw me was the prompt: [ldm@aeolus logs]#. re: > No data > is flowing into aeolus. This is a network issue beyond something I can > resolve. I would check to see if you can access things on the net _from_ aeolus. That should tell us if the network interface ('eth0') is working. re: > I've written to hostmaster at UCSD and will let you know what they tell me. OK. re: > Thank you so much for your time! > Take care! No worries, and you too!
