Hi Tim, re: > Alright we're working on setting up the DNS portion of this. OK, sounds good. re: > The big question for us now after meeting is how much bandwidth should we > expect to use up if we get hourly updates with these filters: > > request IDS|DDPLUS ".*" aeolus.ucsd.edu > request HDS ".*" aeolus.ucsd.edu > request NEXRAD3 "HNX|DAX|MUX|VBX|EYX" aeolus.ucsd.edu > > If there's no way to estimate an accurate figure we're looking for a ballpark > range of how much data that would be in MB/GB. A snapshot for the volume of data found in IDD datastreams can be generated at any time at: Unidata HomePage http://www.unidata.ucar.edu Projects http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/projects Internet Data Distribution http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/projects/#idd IDD Current Operational Status http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/idd/rtstats/ Statistics by Host http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/cgi-bin/rtstats/siteindex idd.unidata.ucar.edu http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/cgi-bin/rtstats/siteindex?idd.unidata.ucar.edu Cumulative volume summary Clicking on this last link resulted in: Data Volume Summary for idd.unidata.ucar.edu Maximum hourly volume 13682.577 M bytes/hour Average hourly volume 7337.844 M bytes/hour Average products per hour 239524 prods/hour Feed Average Maximum Products (M byte/hour) (M byte/hour) number/hour CONDUIT 3111.575 [ 42.404%] 6549.952 69262.261 NEXRAD2 1931.628 [ 26.324%] 2389.150 52200.587 NGRID 737.288 [ 10.048%] 1682.833 15535.217 NEXRAD3 688.504 [ 9.383%] 844.528 44750.630 FNMOC 279.122 [ 3.804%] 1817.700 2429.565 HDS 259.322 [ 3.534%] 440.911 17442.957 NIMAGE 149.898 [ 2.043%] 325.210 185.870 FNEXRAD 77.797 [ 1.060%] 100.419 71.239 IDS|DDPLUS 42.031 [ 0.573%] 49.889 36796.870 EXP 33.451 [ 0.456%] 80.217 308.130 UNIWISC 22.950 [ 0.313%] 34.363 26.783 LIGHTNING 1.545 [ 0.021%] 2.166 314.087 FSL2 1.471 [ 0.020%] 1.711 22.674 GEM 1.263 [ 0.017%] 14.580 177.304 From this list, you can see that the average volume per hour for IDS|DDPLUS and HDS (for your ".*" example REQUEST) is: IDS|DDPLUS - 42.031 MB/hr *** average *** HDS - 259.322 MB/hr *** average *** For NEXRAD3, the estimate for your example REQUEST is more-or-less: (5/160 * 688.504 ~= 22 MB/hr *** average *** (There are more-or-less 160 NEXRADs providing Level III products; your example request was for 5 of those NEXRADs.) NB: - the volumes in the datastreams are _NOT_ fixed. They typically increase over time as more data gets added. In particular, the volume of NEXRAD Level III data will jump as dual polarization products get added.
