Hmm... the LDM on bigbird should _not_ exit because it can't connect to idd.geo.nsf.gov. It _should_ produce a lot of log messages (once every minute), but this should result in nothing more than a larger log file. I am CCing Steve Emmerson on this situation for comment/review.
