Hi Larry, Ok.. Software specs: If Linux is desirable we suggest: RH Enterprise (if support is desired) UPC has not tested this, but Pete Pokrandt at UW has had success. Fedora Core 1 (used by UPC) ---known issues: (client NFS mount ) (security) We have tested and found successful kernel: 2.4.22-1.2188.nptlsmp We are also running versions of RH 7*, 8*, and 9* successfully. RAP has been using Debian..just an aside. Please make sure ALL security patches are in place prior to placing on the network...the trials and tribulations of freeware :) Hardware specs: 2-3 Gb of RAM Dual 2.8 GHz processors 100 Gb System disk 500 Gb RAID 128 Mb Video card A machine of this quality can be built for around 2k, or you can buy off the shelf for around 4k. We enjoy the site www.tigerdirect.com for hardware purchases. Let me know if we can help further. Cheers, and adios DEC alpha ;) Jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- Jeff Weber address@hidden : Unidata Program Center PH:303-497-8676 : University Corp for Atmospheric Research 3300 Mitchell Ln : http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/staff/jweber Boulder,Co 80307-3000 : --------------------------------------------------------------------- On Fri, 21 May 2004, Jeff Weber wrote: > Hi Larry, > > Let us (me) know what we can do to help.. > > Cheers, > > Jeff > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > Jeff Weber address@hidden : > Unidata Program Center PH:303-497-8676 : > University Corp for Atmospheric Research 3300 Mitchell Ln : > http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/staff/jweber Boulder,Co 80307-3000 : > --------------------------------------------------------------------- >
