RE: 20020208: Canadian GEM model (fwd)

Hi Linda,
Nice to hear from you and glad you liked the calendar !
I want to clearly confirm, once again, our commitment here at the Canadian
Meteorological Center in participating in the Unidata program in prodiving
GRIB data from our operational models.  I won't go through the many reasons
why this specific file, while it started on a good foot, has not moved at
the right pace at our end over the last year or so.  
I am now confident that we are now ready to move ahead and collaborate to
support this activity at our end.  First, we are now currently implementing
the most recent LDM upgrade to ensure that the GRIB data that we post is
officially identified as "CMC" on the Unidata network.  The people involved
at our end are:
   - Dov Bensimon (address@hidden), meteorologist in my team (CMC's
Implementation Division)
   - Anne-Marie Beaubien (address@hidden) , computer
specialist in our Informatic Division.

As Tim mentions below, we have a CMC colleague (Garry Toth) presently at
your location for a COMET special course.  We would appreciate your
collaboration to enable Garry and his colleagues to access the GEM regional
model output through the  UNIDATA feed.

Dov and Anne-Marie are ready today to perform tests in collaboration with
your team. To help things out, would you kindly provide to us a contact name
to pursue the proper installation or do you suggest they simply send an
e-mail to address@hidden ?

Of course, we will provide up-dated documentation to you very shortly.

First, let me thank you so much for the Canadian Weather Trivia calendar.
The 
picture for February reminds me of growing up in Minnesota!

I'm taking this opportunity to forward the message below, received by
Unidata's 
support staff.  We have received a few requests for the GEM data, and have 
wondered what happened to the plan for making it available using the LDM.
If I 
recall, the LDM was installed over a year ago, testing took place and I
thought 
we were going to create a community announcement about the data sets being 
available.  It seems like we got off track somehow, but I wondered if it's 
possible to resurrect the collaboration?

Can you call me or send an email to discuss the possibility of revisiting
this 
effort?  I've copied Ekaterina, who was involved earlier.

Tim,

We do not currently receive any GEM data from CMC. There is no
current source for this data on our IDD.

We set up an LDM connection with CMC over a year ago, and did
receive the data for a short time. They have not continued to maintain
a running LDM on there end however. We have not seen any activity
on that end for about a year.

The good news is that GEMPAK can handle the CMC grib data just as
all the other models we get, piped to dcgrib2 and decoded into
GEMPAK grid files.

Linda Miller was in contact with CMC originally. Perhaps there is
some way to revive this interest given COMET's interest.

By the way, the clock on your computer was set to Jun 1, 1998.
