To: address@hidden We are having real problems with ftp access to the OSO server (both 140.90.88.142 and 140.90.6.103) which is hindering our MM5 real-time modeling efforts. Our secondary data acquisition method through the CONDUIT system (NMC2 ldm data feed) is experiencing problems as well. I think these problems are related. Here is a listing of the files that we received today, note how many of the files are below 8,000,000 bytes (pretty much the minimum size for these files after hour 00). /home/disk/data/nmc2/ncep/erl/eta104.000922: -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 7957730 Sep 22 07:14 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD00.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8293198 Sep 22 07:08 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD03.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8235300 Sep 22 07:51 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD06.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8256374 Sep 22 07:48 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD09.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8252878 Sep 22 07:22 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD12.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8242298 Sep 22 07:20 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD15.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8258122 Sep 22 07:46 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD18.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8212516 Sep 22 08:51 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD21.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8237084 Sep 22 07:49 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD24.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 7859130 Sep 22 09:03 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD27.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8235360 Sep 22 08:53 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD30.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8237120 Sep 22 08:43 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD33.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8209066 Sep 22 08:57 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD36.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 7353726 Sep 22 09:04 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD39.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 7353748 Sep 22 09:00 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD42.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 7350280 Sep 22 08:56 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD45.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8184490 Sep 22 09:01 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD48.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 8191434 Sep 22 08:48 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD51.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 7376554 Sep 22 09:08 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD54.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 5808454 Sep 22 09:15 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD57.tm00 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ldm 5794448 Sep 22 09:18 eta.T12Z.GRBGRD60.tm00 The hours that never fully arrived are 27,39,42,45,54,57,and 60. I have just contacted Tech Support at OSO, specifically Donald Turk at 301-713-0902 (the phone number listed on the anonymous ftp site). He is still not convinced that there is a problem, but the data retrieval has never been this slow via ftp and the NMC2 feed has not been this incomplete for quite some time. If you folks could look into the NMC2 data problem, this would be helpful and may end up fixing both problems. Thank you for any help that you can provide. David Ovens P.S.
