lightning data

Thanks David, I will use the address@hidden email from now on.
Perhaps you were confused by my .com email address, the lightning data
has always stayed within the umich.edu domain, I keep the .edu and .com
parts of my job totally separate, except I send email to ldm-users from my
.com address since I don't want to have to subscribe twice to ldm-users in
order to be able to post to the group. wunderground.com has never used
the IDD get lightning data, and never will.
If this .com/.edu confusion is not the case, is there really a problem
with an IDD relay site getting lightning data from a failover site? Since
umich was not able to get lightning data from our primary, I went to a
failover site. I thought this was acceptable with the IDD framework.

David, Jeff, and all,
You are correct.. In my efforts to try to help minimize the data outage
for Umich and their downstreams, I forgot that the NLDN data all goes
to everyone directly from Albany, and is not fed downstream to others.
Guess I just got caught up in the 'hey I can help here!' attitude that
we all seem to get when there are problems somewhere along the IDD.
Sorry for the mishap, and the error in judgement..

Unfortunately there is a problem with this. GDS explicity
prohibits us from allowing the data to be relayed. They
require that all feeds originate from UAlbany (believe me I
I wish this wasn't the case. We feed over 50 Universities
and it would make much more sense to use the tree/relay
model that the rest of the IDD enjoys)

I think this is true for all the IDD feeds except
NLDN NIDS DIFAX and perhaps ACARS.

That is one of the best things about the IDD!!!
The sense of community and cooperation is wonderful.
> Sorry for the mishap, and the error in judgement..
No problem. I just thought I'd better take the opportunity
to remind people. It really would be a shame if one
of our sites messed up and caused everybody to lose.
