Jennie,
A quick test for your connection to an upstream site is to do a notifyme
to them, ie,
% notifyme -vl - -h <upstream host>
This tells you if they are receiving data also. Another test is the
ldmping, ie
% ldmping -i 5 -h <upstream host>
Sometimes when you can't reach most of the upstream sites, it's usually a
local network problem. Do notify your campus network people when you are
having a problem, also tell them the destination host. They can tell you
the scoop locally or find out if it's an ISP problem.
