Surface data decoders use the default $GEMTBL/pack/metar.pack for the parameter packing file. The file contains a parameter name, min and max values of the range to decode, and lastly resolution of data. An example for pressure at mean sea level: PMSL 880. 1080. .1 The default station table is $GEMTBL/stns/sfstns.tbl If you want or need to add new stations and/or packing parameters, use these two files as templates for your custom tables, and then specify the files using the -s and -p flags.
